These insights into the coding job market have been sourced from unique Adzuna job board listings between 1st October 2024 and 31st December 2024. 

The purpose of this is to give you insight into the job market that can guide your career choices, training, and development, ensuring better alignment with market demands.

Demand by area

Opportunities were concentrated in populous Australian states with demand across other regions in both countries. New South Wales (2,704) and Victoria (1,468), Australia, have the highest number of code job postings. In New Zealand, there are 553 unspecified regional postings.

In Australia and New Zealand, the most common salary range was $150,000 to $160,000.

Front end developers were the highest-paid in Australia, with an average salary of $141,000 AUD and AI Developers were the highest for New Zealand with an average of $133,000 NZD.

Demand by role

The code roles with the highest demand across both regions were software development roles with 6,194 job listings; full stack developers with 449; and AI developers with 406.

This illustrates a strong demand for coding talent and the shift towards innovative technologies driving digital transformation across industries.

Companies hiring

The top companies hiring for coding roles were APS with 86 job listings; Microsoft with 80 job listings; and Amazon with 67. Companies need coders to develop and maintain software applications, websites, and systems that drive their operations and engage customers.
