How we design our learning pathways

Learning design | We start with jobs

Our tried and tested approach to building learning pathways is based on the principles we believe will give our students the best possible chance of becoming job-ready, unlocking access to our exclusive Leap Careers community. 

 

  • Quality. Our pathways are not only scrutinised by our own education team; we also seek out external validation and accreditation from world-leading experts such as the British Computer Society.

  • Governance. We ensure our content and pathways adhere to industry standards, regularly reviewed as requirements evolve.

  • Learning experience. The content in our pathways comes from world-class providers and is carefully curated to be delivered in a logical sequence for the best learning outcomes.

  • Industry-leading. We know the certifications employers are looking for so we make sure our pathways focus on those which we know will help our students land their dream job. 

  • A blend of technical and softer skills. Technical skills are critical, but we know that for our students to be successful softer, or power skills, such as communication and problem-solving are vital too.

 

Our learning design approach has two distinct phases.

 

Phase one | Career analysis

In the first phase, we:

  • Analyse job data to identify the sectors of tech and project management where the skills gap is greatest and therefore offer the richest opportunities for new roles.

  • Assess the skills and knowledge required to be a first-class candidate for those roles.

  • Understand the power skills or behaviours needed, alongside the technical prowess, to be successful.

  • Identify the industry-leading professional certifications needed to effectively demonstrate the learning impact.

  • Carefully map the learning components to the skills and attributes required for the job role the pathway leads to.

  • Create clear objectives for measurable learning outcomes.

 


Phase two | Design and build

In phase two, we:

  • Curate the optimum combination of learning content from a range of world-class providers, ensuring a range of modalities are represented to suit all learning preferences.

  • Identify the right accreditation partner to provide exams and certifications at the appropriate stages of the pathway.

  • Pull together the component parts of learning, certifications, support and platforms to create the learning pathway ready for initial assessment by the Learning People team

  • Seek out external partners to provide independent verification that our pathways will lead to the desired job outcomes

  • Assess the number of learning hours required to successfully complete the pathway

 

Once our pathways are live, we’re listening out for feedback via our StudentCare team as they work closely with students throughout their self-directed learning journey so we can continually optimise the pathway and improve learning outcomes.
