Tell us why you enquired with Learning People

In 2018, I qualified as a Solicitor and was working my way up the corporate ladder. However, I began to realise that, perhaps, my career of choice was not aligning with my personal values or skill set. The idea of a career change after four years of University, two years of training and a couple of years post post-qualification experience behind me, was nothing short of daunting.

I had always had a real interest in defence as a whole, I just wasn’t sure which direction piqued my interest the most. I began my online search to see what career change options were out there, and I came across the Learning People. I thought, there’s no harm in enquiring, right? 

 

Were there any specific skills you wanted to gain or develop by enrolling with Learning People?

As a complete newbie to cyberspace and information technology, I initially wanted to gain the basic fundamental knowledge of IT, through the CompTIA A+ exam. I then wanted to leverage an in-depth understanding of networking, on the proviso that a solid understanding of networking is required for any career within cyber. I also wanted to develop a broad understanding of all aspects of cybersecurity and wanted to ensure that I had a real passion for the field, before committing to my career change. 

Was there a particular reason you chose to enrol with Learning People, and did you speak to any other educators or training providers?
Whilst I did not speak to any other educators or training providers on the telephone, I did carry out an online search of different organisations that could assist with my career change. It was clear to me that the Learning People set the benchmark for online learning platforms and it felt right that I opted for them. After reading their Trustpilot reviews, I did not have any anxieties about the quality of my learning journey with them and I was immediately impressed with the careers services which they provide. 

 

What was the career consultation phone call like for you?

The careers consultation phone call was fantastic, very informative and gave me a good indication of what to expect going forward. It helped me set my expectations and I knew what I had to do to achieve my goals. 

Tell us about your experience of learning online using our system

The online system is extremely user-friendly and easy to navigate around.

Were you able to gain support from our StudentCare™ team when you needed it?

The StudentCare Team at The Learning People have been fantastic to me. I had a circumstance which meant that I required an extension of time to complete my exams and they had no problem in granting me this, once I had explained my reasons, which I really appreciated.

 

How did you get on with the practice exams and test preparation?

The practice exams provided by The Learning People have been crucial in passing my cyber exams. They give you a real indicator of the types of questions which will be on the real exam and enable you to prepare yourself for the time constraints. 

Tell us about your experience of working with our Career Services team, and what did you find most useful?

Marisha Baksi went above and beyond her role and has been an absolutely fantastic careers coach to me, on both a professional level and a personal level. It is clear that she has a real passion for the development of individuals pursuing a career change or development and I cannot thank her enough for the assistance and continued support that she has shown me during the early days of my career change, right through to finding my new role and beyond.

 

How did enrolling with Learning People affect your career?

The Learning People set me up on the right path by hand picking the correct exams to sit in order to carve the path to my new career in cyberspace. There are so many cyber qualifications out there which you could obtain, but their expertise nailed down the most in demand and widely recognised qualifications, to help me stand out from the crowd. 

Tell us about your new job

I am now employed as a Junior Cyber Exercise Planner with one of the UK’s fastest-growing companies in defence, Inzpire. The company was founded in 2005 with the main objective of improving the relationship between the defence industry and the armed forces. 

Inzpire designs and delivers products and training for the armed forces, governments and civilian businesses across the world. The company trains the armed forces in both live and simulated environments; has produced its own range of simulators; offers classroom-based and online training courses in subjects including cyber and supports UK military personnel worldwide. Whilst 80% of the company’s workforce is ex-military, the company regularly recruits from a talent pool of individuals from all walks of life and all backgrounds and as such has given me the opportunity to prove myself as a motivated and driven career changer. 

 

What has been the best part of your Learning People experience?

It has to be the career services, which provided me with first-class services on writing my CV, covering letter and LinkedIn profile. Whilst I have put all of the hard work in achieving my qualifications, the guidance from my careers coach has been crucial to securing my current role and has generally been second to none.

 

How has your life changed from enrolling to right now?

If somebody had told me last year that I would have left my role as a lawyer and would be working in my dream job in cyberspace, honestly, I would have laughed. I now wake up every day, looking forward to what the working day is going to bring, fascinated with the tasks set and the varying projects that I’m working on, with a great work-life balance. I am happier than ever, in a career which I hope will last a lifetime. 

What advice would you give to somebody who is thinking about enrolling with Learning People?

Just do it! There is absolutely no time like the present and if your experience is anything like mine, you will not regret it!
